DISABILITY INSURANCE AFTER 65

Canadians are healthier, live longer, and are happier when working.  Employers recognize the value of older employees and the positive impact they have on the company’s bottom line. So, why won’t traditional insurance companies continue to provide either personal disability coverage or group long term disability to 65 year old?

More than 80% of Canadians say they would like to work beyond age 65 even if they have enough money to retire. It’s more about human fulfillment and purpose than it is about money, and if 60 really is the new 40, it’s a win – win proposition.

This begs the question of how to provide that company President, General Manager or Shop Supervisor with the same benefits they enjoyed before age 65. While it may or may not be a negotiating point for retaining a key employee, or attracting a contract person, it is protection for both parties.
