New to – or returning to – Canada? Make sure your covered with Provincial Plan Replacement Insurance Coverage.
Provincial Plan Replacement Coverage is temporary insurance that duplicates provincial plan coverage to a lifetime maximum of $1,000,000 for expenses such as physician fees, hospital expenses, lab charges and ambulance.
It was designed for employees and their dependents who live in Canada but are not yet covered by their Provincial Health Plan.
Typically there is a three-month waiting period for provincial plan health coverage for employees and their dependents who are:
- entering the country, or
- returning after a period away from Canada, or
- foreign employees who are temporarily residing in Canada.
Employees and their dependents must have extended health care coverage under a group benefit plan to be eligible for Provincial Plan Replacement coverage.
